Our Story

Ryan Koonce, MD, MBA

CEO & Co-Founder

In 2014, while running a busy orthopedic practice, I noticed the same questions coming up before nearly every surgery: How do I prepare? What happens during surgery? What should I expect afterward?

We relied on handouts, videos, and hospital classes, yet the same questions kept coming—through phone calls, emails, portal messages, and clinic visits. My staff and I spent countless hours answering the same questions one patient at a time. Meanwhile, patients searched online, where generic or conflicting information often created even more questions and anxiety.

Those conversations revealed something important. The problem wasn't patient engagement—it was our approach to educating them.

That realization became OrthoSkool.

Patient education should be a structured, accessible, and evidence-based clinical intervention. Every surgeon has unique protocols. Every healthcare organization has unique workflows. Patient education should reflect both—because when patients are properly prepared before surgery, everyone benefits.
